The Two Georges

About the shop

Two chairs, under 1890s beams.

A room the size of a laneway workshop in the Fremantle West End, with no street frontage and no shopfront sign. Shortlisted by a national panel for the way it was built.

Born from a project.

Anyone that knows him well enough knows he needs a project.

Paul Howard, founder, in the shop’s own words

Paul Howard opened The Two Georges Barbershop in 2025, in a room the size of a laneway workshop under the original beams of an 1890s West End warehouse. Years of research went into it. You may recognise the face as one half of George and Ivy, the salons he runs across town.

The address is the point as much as the room is. 16A Bannister St, Fremantle, through a brick archway with ivy over it, with a red and white barber pole beside the timber door. There is no street frontage and no shopfront sign. You have to know it is there.

What he kept

  • The original beams
  • The brick floor
  • The leaded glass

What he brought in

  • Restored Belmont chairs
  • A brass register that has never taken a cent
  • Two barbers he would sit in front of himself

Reviews from Fremantle

5.0 on Google

Two Georges is unhurried, great music is playing and a handshake and a cold beer is always offered. Tommy has always nailed my beard trims, and you can tell he cares about the quality work he does. It is a place that feels distinctly Fremantle.

Adam Nicholson Beard maintenance

Relaxed, quiet and well designed compared to busier barbers with loud tunes, screens or nowhere to sit. They treat you like proper mates, taking the time to talk through your cut or long term goals. My new favourite spot in Freo and Perth.

Joel Jackson Local Guide

On holiday from the US and in desperate need of some cleanup, we walked into Two Georges and immediately felt the relaxed vibe. Tommy connected right away on what I wanted. So, for any girls looking for a great barber cut, this is the place.

Bette Horning Visiting from the US

Tommy is running a very tidy operation here. Beautiful space, vibes are immaculate and the cuts are always to the highest standards. Full Fremantle experience in there with the red brick and the most hospitable service.
